Where Do You Find This Kind of Dentistry?
________________
Knowing there is a better way to repair teeth is one thing.
Finding a dentist who practices that way is another.
I’m Dr. Shawn O’Berry.
I have been a dentist for more than 20 years and have helped thousands of patients protect their teeth and avoid future problems.
The secret is not complicated:
Do what is best for the tooth.
More Than Biomimetic Dentistry
Biomimetic dentistry is an important part of what I do.
But saving teeth requires more than placing better restorations.
It requires looking at the whole picture.
-
Healthy gums.
-
Protection from decay and other chemical damage.
-
Protection from wear, cracks, and other physical damage.
-
Biomimetic restorations when a tooth needs to be repaired.
-
And cosmetic treatment only when the patient wants it.
I call this the Pyramid of No Dental Problems.
Each level supports the one above it.
If we ignore the foundation, we may repair a tooth without solving the reason it was damaged.
My Job Is to Keep You Out of My Chair
Dentistry often makes more money when patients need more treatment.
My goal is the opposite.
I want to help you understand what is happening, correct the causes, and need as little dentistry as possible in the future.
That means being:
Gentle. Treatment should not feel rushed or unnecessarily stressful.
Thorough. The small details often explain why the same problems keep returning.
Respectful. They are your teeth. You should understand your choices and have control over what happens.
Honest. I will tell you what I see, what concerns me, and what I would do if it were my own tooth.
We Look at It Together
You should not have to take a dentist’s word for everything.
I use photographs, X-rays, and a careful examination to show you what I see.
We look at the evidence together.
I explain what is healthy, what is damaged, and what may become a problem.
Then we decide what needs attention now, what can wait, and what may only need to be watched.
This is called co-diagnosis.
You are not being sold a treatment plan.
You are being given the information needed to make a good decision.
Science and Common Sense
Good dentistry should make sense.
If a tooth is healthy, leave it alone.
If part of it is damaged, preserve what is still strong.
If the same problem keeps happening, find out why.
And before removing natural tooth structure, be certain it is necessary.
That is science combined with common sense.
The Proof Is in the Teeth
One family came to me after their teenager had been told she needed three root canals.
By looking more carefully at what was happening, we were able to treat the teeth without performing those root canals.
Another patient had been told a tooth needed a crown.
After examining it, I found that the crown was not necessary.
Another patient had lived with recurring headaches.
The cause was connected to the way the teeth came together. After correcting the bite, the headaches went away.
Different patients.
Different problems.
But the same approach:
-
Look carefully.
-
Find the cause.
-
Preserve the tooth.
-
And do only the dentistry that is truly needed.
That is what tooth-saving dentistry looks like.
